Carbon is money proposes a new unit of international trade (toco) where each unit in circulation represents one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent that has been credibly reduced or removed from the atmosphere. Carbon mitigation is now driven by economic activity, not by moral and ethical motives.
Support an alternative international monetary system (the carbon standard) based on a currency backed by carbon mitigation outcomes.

This problem arises from a failure in our economic model - a consequence of the price of goods and services not reflecting their true cost to society. In the case of emissions we only make decisions based on their direct cost and benefit without consideration of the indirect costs borne by others or the damage suffered to the common interest.

Carbon is money is a movement of passionate people united across borders who agree that removing carbon from the atmosphere is in our common interest. The simplest way to demonstrate this agreement is to use carbon mitigation as a means to store, exchange and account for value amongst ourselves – as the basis for our money.
